A Little Juneteenth History

 

History is not in vogue these days because the left wants a population that doesn’t know the truth and will easily swallow their lies.  So, I’m going to put my former Under Secretary of Education hat on and remind you of a little history.

 

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the freeing of black slaves in Texas two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.  Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, the first Juneteenth celebration was held in 1872 in Emancipation Park in Houston, Texas.  It has also been described as “Black America’s July 4th.” 

 

Of course, I understand the emotions of celebrating the end of the sinful institution of slavery.  But there would have been no liberation of the slaves without July 4, 1776. 

 

The left wants us to believe that slavery was somehow unique to America and central to its founding.  That’s what the fake 1619 Project is all about.  Sadly, slavery was the norm throughout all of human history.  What truly makes America unique is that it was founded on the idea of liberty and we fought a civil war to end slavery.

 

When the Founding Fathers wrote the words of the second paragraph in the Declaration of Independence -- “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. . .” -- they struck a blow against slavery.  

 

Now let’s go through some of the history that the left doesn’t want you to know about.

 

When it came to the issue of slavery, the Democrat Party was the “pro-choice party.”  The Democrat Party’s position was that each state should be allowed to decide for itself whether it wanted the choice of owning slaves.  Of course, the slaves had no choice.

 

After the Civil War in which at least 650,000 Americans died (we are the only nation to fight a civil war to end the institution of slavery), the Democrat Party didn’t give up in treating black Americans as second-class citizens.  It doubled down. 

 

It was the Democrat Party that passed Jim Crow laws throughout the South that enforced segregation.  It passed a web of laws that were designed to prevent freed slaves from voting.

 

In the 1960s, Republicans in Congress led the effort to pass civil rights legislation to ensure black Americans were covered under the law by the equal protection guarantees of the Constitution. 

 

Opposition was primarily led by approximately 20 Democrat senators who did everything they could to prevent those laws from passing.  Ultimately, they failed.  But many remained in the Senate for years. 

 

Joe Biden, who has been around Washington forever, has frequently bragged about his friendships with these Southern Democrats.  To this day, the Russell Senate Office Building remains named after Georgia’s Richard Russell, an avowed segregationist.

 

The left has turned our Founding Fathers into monsters by holding them to today’s modern standards.  But in their day, they were expanding the promise of America and human freedom.  That’s something we should celebrate every day!

 

 

 

Left-wing Lunacy

 

I hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day!  Millions of dads did.  But, once again, the left did its best to ruin it, just like it did on Mother’s Day.  National Public Radio, which is funded with your tax dollars, used Father’s Day to promote the insane idea of “pregnant men.”

 

There are 8 billion people in the world.  Of that number, all of them were brought into the world by pregnant women, not “pregnant men.”  What men are essential for is raising the children they have fathered.

 

On that point, we are failing terribly as the left has convinced us that women don’t need men and children don’t need fathers.  We’re now in the middle of a radical experiment where 25% of all children are being raised in fatherless homes – with tragic results.

 

 

 

The Dodgers Disaster

 

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a double header Friday night.  They got shutout by the San Francisco Giants 15-to-0 on the playing field, while Catholics, Evangelicals and a Jewish rabbi beat them outside the stadium when thousands of Christians stood up to defend their faith. 

 

The cowardly Dodgers tried to avoid the whole controversy by presenting their “Community Hero Award” to the anti-Christian Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence an hour before game time when the stands were virtually empty.  Many of those who were there booed the Sisters.

 

By the way, don’t fall for this myth that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are some sort of charity doing great work.  Their motto is “Go and sin some more” -- a mockery of Christ and Christian teaching.

 

 

 

Celebrate Life

 

As I was having breakfast this morning, I saw an ad that grabbed my attention.  It begins with a woman holding a pregnancy test.  She’s really excited and tells her husband, “We’re having a fetus!”  In the next scene, a pregnant mother looks at her sonogram and says, “Hi, fetus.”

 

In the last scene, the couple is on the couch while their young daughter is drawing at a nearby table.  The very pregnant mom asks her daughter, “You want to feel the fetus kick?”  Little girl looks her mother in the eyes and says, “It’s a baby.”

Blinken In Beijing

 

When President Biden sent Secretary of State Antony Blinken to communist China over the weekend, he dispatched America’s top diplomat without a commitment that he would be able to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.  So, Biden took his kowtowing to communist China to a new low over the weekend. 

 

Just before boarding Air Force One to fly to Philadelphia Saturday morning, Biden walked over to reporters waiting on the tarmac.  When asked if Secretary Blinken could mend relations with communist China, Biden said this about the spy balloon incident:

 

“I don’t think the [Chinese] leadership knew where it was and knew what was in it and knew what was going on.  I think it was more embarrassing than it was intentional.”

 

Let me remind you that Beijing’s spy balloon followed a course that took it over multiple U.S. military bases.  As it flew over our bases, it would circle the bases, making multiple passes to collect information. 

 

And Biden thinks this is accidental?!  Why did he say that? 

 

Well, Biden knew that when Blinken left the United States, there was no agreement that Blinken would be allowed to meet with Xi.  So, Biden had to publicly grovel and accept Beijing’s public statements that the spy balloon flyover was an accident in order to get that meeting. 

 

Wouldn’t you know it – Blinken got his meeting with Chairman Xi.  And Blinken now says that the spy balloon chapter is “closed.”  We’re not going to talk about that anymore.

 

Once again, no one is representing the interests of the United States.  Biden wasn’t representing us when he lied about the balloon.  Blinken wasn’t representing us either because I guarantee you he did not forcefully confront Chairman Xi. 

 

This weakness will make defending Taiwan and confronting communist China about COVID-19 far more difficult, if not impossible.
